What You Should Know About Driver Updating

There are a variety of popular alerts and other messages that you might get in the driver updating procedure, several of which I've paraphrased and listed here along with guidance on what to do:

Windows can't verify the publisher of this driver software: Choose Yes to continue installing this driver only if you received it directly from the manufacturer or from their installation disc. If you downloaded the driver elsewhere and didn't exhaust your search for a manufacturer-provided one, choose No.

QUESTION: I have seen this Event Log Message:

The NVIDIA OpenGL driver lost connection with the display driver due to exceeding the Windows Time-Out limit and is unable to continue.
                The Application must close.

ANSWER: If you received this message from an application (on a pop up message or in the Event Log), the application was unable to continue rendering because the Microsoft Windows imposed time limit (TDR) was exceeded. This is normally the case when the workload sent to the Graphics Card is greater than what the graphics card can process in the normal timeout of two seconds.

Two possible solutions to try would be:

1. Reduce the graphics workload if possible, such as rendering to a lower resolution or with less detail.

2. Update Graphic driver. You can download DriverTuner and let it update your drivers automatically.

Method to Update Driver with Device Manager

1. Open Control Panel

Note: If you don't see these options, your Control Panel view may be set to Large icons, Small icons, or Classic View, depending on your version of Windows. If so, find and choose Device Manager from the big collection of icons you see and then skip to Step 3 below.

2. Open Device Manager

From the open Control Panel window, click System, choose the Hardware tab, and then click the Device Manager button.

3. In Device Manager, you can check for updates, update your drivers or troubleshoot driver problems

It's best to let Windows install device drivers automatically. But if Windows can't find a driver for your NVidia Quadro 5000M, you can look for a driver on the manufacturer's website of NVidia. Driver updates are often available in the support section of such sites.

Once you find the updated driver, follow the installation instructions on the website.
